Na Pali Coast, Kauai, Hawaii – Absolutely Beautiful

Na Poli Coast, Kauai, Hawaii

The Na Pali Coast, located on the Northwest area of the Hawaiian Island of Kauai, is considered one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, and we wholeheartedly agree. Relatively untouched by man, it includes 17 miles of dramatic scenery–pristine shores, spectacular cliffs, cascading waterfalls, lava tubes and sea caves. It almost looks too perfect, like a painting drawn from someone’s imagination. The cliffs, known as “pali” in Hawaiian, are as high as 4,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. Given its rugged terrain, there are no roads along the Na Pali Coast, but you can capture breathtaking views by boat, catamaran, kayak, zodiac raft and helicopter. You might even see dolphins, which are known to play off the coastline year round during early morning hours. Access by foot is possible through hiking trails, such as the 11-mile Kalalau Trail, however permits are required for your safety. Our photo, taken on the day we drove to Waimea Canyon, barely captures the awesome beauty of the Kalalau valley and coast. For those less inclined to adventures on a foot or boat, you can take a road trip to Waimea Canyon, which some have nicknamed the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific” and continue on to the neighboring State Park and Kalalau lookout for a fantastic view of Na Pali.

For those that are movie buffs, the Napali Coast has been the backdrop for several Hollywood blockbusters including Jurassic Park, King Kong and South Pacific.

If you decide to take a boat excursion, we recommend booking your adventure as early as possible on your vacation to allow enough time to reschedule it–that is, if weather/water conditions are rough. Prices generally range from $60 to $120 per person, with discounts available for children. Aloha!
